Discipline of a Loving Father

God's Relationship With Israel

All nations know that the Lord loves Israel. When Israel was oppressed by its enemies, the Lord fought for them and delivered them time after time.

Is God’s love for Israel cuddling then? By no means! Rather, it is strict and severe!

How Does God Teach the Sons of Israel?

First, God gave His Laws only to the people of Israel, and commanded them to follow strictly. For the disobedient Israelites, God punished them and healed them, then taught them patiently, over and over again!

Is this unfair to the Israelites? Absolutely not! God's plan is to let His children inherit His Kingdom! It is like the Chairman of a big Corporation who has decided to leave his huge business to his son. However, he knows very well that unless his young son develops the capabilities and mindset of a top management, he would never be able to continue running the operations!

God therefore first handed a portion of his inheritance (the Earth) over to his son (Adam) to manage, and commanded him to follow all His instructions. In this way, Adam could learn from his own experience, while God hid behind the scene to guide him in appropriate times. When the Son has grown up, becomes mature, and has passed all the trials, the Father delightfully handed him all the inheritance. And the first one who received the inheritance was our Lord Jesus, who is the last Adam.

Jesus came and said to them, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Matthew 28:18

And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. 1 Corinthians 15:45

God Prepares His Children to Fulfil Their Purposes

After Lord Jesus has received the authority, He immediately gave instructions to share His inheritance to His disciples.

Whoever overcomes, I will give him to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne. Revelation 3:11

We can see that God's strict teaching to His children is for their own good. As God Himself has said, He does not need any offerings or sacrifice from His creations (Psalms 50:10-12). Rather, what He wants is for His children to grow up, and to have the knowledge and wisdom to rule over His Kingdom. This is also the purpose of God when He first created Man on earth.

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” Genesis 1:26
