In recent years, there is a group of people who believe that the Earth is flat and not a globe. In this post, we will take a look at the Scriptures and see what the Bible says about this.

 

 

What Does the Bible Say About the Earth?

 

1. The Earth is a Firmament - It Does Not Spin

 

He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved. ~ Psalms 104:5

 

The earth trembles, and its people shake; You alone keep its foundations firm. ~ Psalms 75:3

 

The world is firmly established, it cannot be moved. ~ Psalms 93:1

 

Let all the earth tremble before Him. The world stands firm and cannot be shaken. ~ 1 Chronicles 16:30

 

2. The Earth Has Four Corners - It Is Not a Sphere

 

After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree. ~ Revelations 7:1

 

He will set up a banner for the nations, and will assemble the outcasts of Israel, And gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth. ~ Isaiah 11:12

 

Son of man, this is what the Sovereign LORD says to the land of Israel: "The end! The end has come upon the four corners of the land!" ~ Ezekiel 7:2

 

The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved: I bear up the pillars of it. ~ Psalms 75:3

 

3. Heaven is Also a Firmament

 

Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. and God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. ~ Genesis 1:6-8

 

And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night ..... And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth. ~ Genesis 1:14-15

 

And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth. ~ Genesis 1:16-17

 

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handywork. ~ Psalms 19:1

 

4. Heaven is Set Like a Tent Covering the Earth

 

He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in. ~ Isaiah 40:22

 

Can you, with Him, spread out the skies, Strong as a cast metal mirror? ~ Job 37:18

 

5. Heaven and Earth Has Ends (Boundaries)

 

And he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens. ~ Mark 13:27

 

I will bring upon Elam the four winds From the four ends / quarters / of heaven. ~ Jeremiah 49:36

 

Let them know that God rules in Jacob to the ends of the earth. ~ Psalms 59:13

 

He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth. ~ Jeremiah 10:13

 

I will bring them from the land of the north and gather them from the ends of the earth. ~ Jeremiah 31:8

 

He unleashes His lightning beneath the whole heaven and sends it to the ends of the earth. ~ Job 37:3

 

For he views the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens. ~ Job 28:24

 

6. Heaven and Earth is Suspended Over Empty Space

 

He spreads out the northern skies over empty space; he suspends the earth over nothing. ~ Job 26:7

 

7. Sun and Moon Move Across the Earth in Heaven

 

And he (Joshua) said in the sight of Israel, Sun, you stand still upon Gibeon; and you, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon. And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day. ~ Joshua 10:12-13

 

Any Scriptures About the Earth Being Circular in Shape?

 

The Bible mentions "four corners of the earth" several times so the earth is probably a square or rectangular in shape. But Is there any Scriptures about the earth having the shape of a circle?

 

The only Scripture I could find is the following, but the meaning of "circle of the earth" is quite controversial here. If I ask someone to put a name tag on the "circle of a cake", I probably mean there is a circle on the surface of the cake, instead of the cake being circular in shape.

 

He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. ~ Isaiah 40:22

 

Also, the word "circle" sometimes refers to "boundary" in some translations as in the following verse. As a result, it is not clear whether the word "circle" means circle in shape.

When He established the heavens, I (Wisdom) was there; When He inscribed a circle (some translated as "boundary") on the face of the deep. Proverbs 8:27
