Will All Bible Prophecies Be Fulfilled?

Surprisingly, the Answer is probably “NO”

Before I decided to study the Bible myself, I have often heard preachers say that over 90% of Bible prophecies have already been fulfilled. Therefore. all prophecies will certainly be fulfilled at the end of this Age. However, have all prophecies really been fulfilled?

After I have carefully studied the Bible, I found that the answer is probably NO! A prophecy about Judah king Jeconiah, for example, has not been fulfilled.

First, Who is Jeconiah?

Jeconiah, also called Jehoiachin, is a grandson of king Josiah of Judah. After Josiah had been killed in a battle, Judah quickly fell into the hands of Egypt and then Babylon. Babylon gave Coniah the kingship of Judah, but the new king was rebellious. King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon therefore quickly conquered Judah again and imprisoned Coniah in Babylon.

Yahweh’s Prophecies about Coniah

At that time, the kingdom of Judah had already been separated from Israel and greatly weakened over the years. Yahweh then commanded Judah to submit to His servant, king Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, but many Jews would not listen. Yahweh therefore pronounced curses on the last kings of Judah, and prophesied that king Coniah would be childless, and none of his descendants would sit on David’s throne.

“As I live,” says the Lord, “though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, were the signet on My right hand, yet I would pluck you off.” … Thus says the Lord: “Write this man down as childless,  man who shall not prosper in his days; for none of his descendants shall prosper, sitting on the throne of David, and ruling anymore in Judah.” ~ Jeremiah 22:24-30

Has this Prophecy about Coniah been Fulfilled?

Well, the answer is obviously NO! King Coniah was released after 37 years by a new king in Babylon, and he also had sons who became ancestors of Jesus.

David the king begot Solomon … Josiah begot Jeconiah and his brothers about the time they were carried away to Babylon. And after they were brought to Babylon, Jeconiah begot Shealtiel, and Shealtiel begot Zerubbabel. Zerubbabel begot Abiud … And Jacob begot Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus who is called Christ. ~ Matthew 1:6-16

Why was This Prophecy Not Fulfilled?

Actually, Jesus has already answered this question when He said, “The law and the prophets were until John” (Luke 16:16). Prophecies were only accurate until the time of John the Baptist! Jesus comes after John the Baptist, so His genealogy is NOT in the Old Testament prophecies.

Why was there such a change? The answer is simple. There was a change in the rulership of the world! Before the time of Jesus, the world was under Yahweh. However, after the resurrection of Jesus, all authority in heaven and on earth have been given to Jesus!

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth." ~ Matthew 28:18

Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth

Yes, many laws and prophecies are no longer applicable in the New Testament. Therefore when we study the bible, we must be careful to follow the advice of apostle Paul, which is to:

RIGHTLY DIVIDE THE WORD OF TRUTH

(2 Timothy 2:15)
