How to Keep Demons Out of Our Lives?

In our previous post “Why Did the Pigs Drown Themselves?”, we mentioned that after Jesus cast out the evil spirits “Legion” from a man, the man begged Jesus to let him stay with them. However, Jesus rejected his request and told him to proclaim God's mercy on him in his hometown instead.

Now the man from whom the demons had departed begged Him that he might be with Him. But Jesus sent him away, saying, “Return to your own house, and tell what great things God has done for you.” And he went his way and proclaimed throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him. ~ Luke 8:38-39

Did Jesus do so because He wanted to promote His ministry? Probably NOT, because otherwise Jesus would have said the same thing every time He performed a miracle. A more likely reason could be: Jesus knew that the man wanted to stick around because he was afraid of the demons, so He just taught him how to keep the demons away.

Believe in Your Heart, Confess with Your Mouth

The Bible tells us that if we “believe in our hearts” and “confess with our mouths”, we can make whatever we say a reality. (Please read our eBook “The Power of Words”). Therefore if the man keeps believing and proclaiming God’s works on him, no demons could enter him again!

Remember how Jesus’ disciple Peter walked on water! When Jesus gave His command, Peter forgot about his physical limitations and immediately walked towards Jesus. However, the moment he let doubt enter his mind, he started to sink. Imagine if Peter had kept believing and kept confessing, how much longer could he have walked on the sea?

And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.”So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” ~ Matthew 14:28-31

Keep Demonic Objects Away

Another common cause for a person becoming victim to demonic oppression is the demonic objects they allow in their everyday lives. Objects like idol images or charms show that the person is receptive to these foreign spirits, which makes themselves an easy target and prey for the demons.

Preach to Our Close Ones Too!

Further, even though some Christians can be strong in faith, their close ones can still open doors to demonic activities if they do not share the same faith. Therefore, it was very important for the man previously possesed by "Legion" to proclaim God’s works on him to all his neighbours and people in his homeland. Otherwise, the evil spirits could have attacked him again through doors opened by his close ones.

Wise as king Solomon, he was quickly led astray after he married many foreign wives and practiced their idol worship. This is because evil spirits can operate in invisible realms and cause damages which humans have no knowledge of. Therefore, we must keep both ourselves and our close ones away from them!

Once Saved Always Saved is Simply NOT TRUE!

Many people are still preaching “once saved always saved”, but this is simply NOT TRUE! In fact, many Christians have reported that they experience even stronger attacks after they have openly confessed their faith.

The only way to keep our faith is to continue to build on our foundation of God’s Word. Jesus said His disciples should take up their cross everyday and follow Him”. Clearly, “being saved” is NOT a once and for all process.

Then Jesus said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. ~ Luke 9:23

Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine (Jesus), and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. ~ Matthew 7:24-25
