What Should I Do to be Saved?

Many preachers tell us that we are saved by grace, and not by works (Ephesians 2:8-9). So does it mean that we do not have to do anything? NO! we have to do something! NOT Works, but To - Receive It! In Romans, Paul gave very clear instructions on how one can be saved.

"For with the heart man believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."  ~ Romans 10:10

Two Steps To Be Saved

1. Believe in our Hearts

2. Confess with our Mouths

What to Believe and Confess?

The following 3 points are central to Christian beliefs, and have been mentioned many times repeatedly in the Bible.

1. Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God

2. Jesus died on the cross for our sins, and was raised after three days from the dead

3. Jesus is our Lord and our Savior

That if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved.  ~ Romans 10:9

But these are written, that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you might have life through his name.  ~  John 20:31

Believers' Prayer

When you have made up your mind to follow Jesus and become a Christian, confess your faith by saying the following prayer. You can use your own wordings, but your prayer must include the following 3 points:

I, xxx, believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God

I, xxx, believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sins, and He was raised after three days from the dead. All authorities in Heaven and on Earth has been given to Him.

I, xxx, accept Jesus as my Lord and my Savior.

Two Important Points to Note:

1. "Believe in your Heart and Confess with your Mouth" means you must mean what you say. In other words, when you say the Believers' Prayer, you must truly believe in every word you say.

2. Since you have now confessed that Jesus is your Lord, you must submit yourself to Him in every decision you are going to make. Study the Bible, and learn to hear the "still small voice" in your spirit. Prove it with your actions that Jesus is your Lord by following Christ, and not professionals, authoritative figures, your loved ones, or even your own flesh. (See blog post "How to Make Correct Decisions Every Time?")

This is the part most people miss. Once you are saved, you cannot live in the same way you did before. Unless you learn how to follow Jesus, you will not be able to grow your faith and build your relationship with Him. This comes with practice, so start now after saying your Believers' Prayer. This is the fastest way to grow as a Christian!
