IMPORTANCE OF COMMON PEOPLE TO A NATION

In our last blog post “Four Types of Earthly Kingdoms”, we mentioned that all  forms of Earthly Kingdoms have been summarised in the image of a statue seen in the dream of Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar. Actually in addition to this meaning, the statue has also given us many other important messages, and one of them is this - The weakest part is in fact the most indispensable! Let us first take a look at Nebuchadnezzar’s vision.

Image Seen by king Nebuchadnezzar

You, O king, were watching; and behold, a great image! … This image’s head was of fine gold, its chest and arms of silver, its belly and thighs of bronze, its legs of iron, its feet partly of iron and partly of clay. You watched while a stone was cut out without hands, which struck the image on its feet of iron and clay, and broke them in pieces. Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold were crushed together, and became like chaff from the summer threshing floors; the wind carried them away so that no trace of them was found … ~ Daniel 2:31-35

What Caused the Whole Statue to Fall?

In this dream, which part caused the whole statue to foll? Was it the top part - the gold head? Or the strongest part - the iron legs? NO! It was the FEET!

In spite of being the lowest, the weakest, and often receives the least attention, it is the feet that supports the whole body. When the feet is broken, the whole body will inevitably collapse!

Importance of Common People

I believe this is an important reminder to rulers, kings, elites and all other privileged classes. It is the common people, the lowest class that support them in their high positions. Unless these people are kept safe and strong, a nation cannot function properly. As Apostle Paul said in the following verses:

The eye cannot say to the hand, “I do not need you.” Nor can the head say to the feet, “I do not need you. On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, ~ 1 Corinthians 12:21-22
