Generational Curse in God's Family Broken by Joseph

Does God Have a Family?

It may not be obvious for most people, but God indeed has a Family on Earth. So who are His family members? For sure we know at least two of His sons, the first Adam created by God, and the Last Adam who is Jesus.

Now when all the people were baptised, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptised, and praying, the heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, You (Jesus) are my beloved Son; in whom I am well pleased. ~ Luke 3:21-22

And Jesus himself ... being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph …..  which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God. ~ Luke 3:23-38

Generational Curse on God’s Family

Nonetheless, there seems to be a ‘“generational curse” on God’s Family. Descendants of His descendants kept fighting each other and bringing disasters to His whole Family and the world as a result.

Adam’s Sons: Cain and Abel

The first murder was committed by Adam’s first son Cain, who killed his own brother Abel.

Cain told this (the Lord's words) to his brother Abel. And when they were in the field, Cain stood up against his brother Abel and killed him. ~ Genesis 4:8

Abraham’s Sons: Ishmael and Issac

Abraham's two sons also did not get along well because their mothers did not like each other. However, Issac’s mother Sarah was wise enough to send Abraham’s elder son Ismael away before any tragedy could happen. Nontheless. the modern day descendants of Ishmael (the Arabs) have been at odds with Issac's descendants (the Jews) for generations.

Issac’s Sons: Esau and Jacob

Issac's two sons, Esau and Jacob started to fight even from their mother's womb. The elder son Esau kept making plans to kill his younger brother Jacob, and Esau’s descendants the Edomites also continued their hostility towards Jacob's sons the Israelites until this day.

Because you (sons of Esau) harbored an ancient hatred and delivered the Israelites over to the sword in the time of their disaster at the final stage of their punishment. ~ Ezekiel 35:5

Jacob’s Sons: Joseph and his Ten Elder Brothers

Even though Jacob had more than two sons, it seems like the same “curse” was still in operation. Joseph was persecuted by his ten elder brothers when the youngest Benjamin was still a child, and he was eventually sold to Egypt as a slave.

Joseph Finally Broke this “Curse”!

Fortunately, this “curse” was finally broken by Joseph, and there was no more bloodshed or hostility among the sons of Jacob from his generation. How did he do that? By overcoming Evil with Good!

Even though Joseph’s elder brothers tried to kill him, he gave them food to save them from famine, and preserved their descendants in Egypt under his protection. All sons of Jacob (Israel) were once again united under Joseph, and even became a strong nation under the rulership of king David.

How Do We Know this “Curse” had been Broken?

We know this “curse” had been broken because there was no more strife between Joseph’s two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.

Even though Manasseh, the firstborn son of Joseph, had his blessing taken away by his younger borther Ephraim (Genesis 48), he did not persecute Ephraim like what Esau did to Jacob. This goodness and generosity was even etended to all Joseph's descendants.

Gideon, the fifth judge of Israel, is a descendant of Manasseh. Descendants from Ephraim challenged him after he had successfully saved all Israelites from the hand of their common enemies the Midianites. Without shedding a drop of blood, Gideon, like his forefather Joseph, made peace with his brothers the Ephramites through his humble and thoughtful reply.

Now the men of Ephraim said to him (Gideon), “Why have you done this to us by not calling us when you went to fight with the Midianites?” And they reprimanded him sharply. So he said to them, “What have I done now in comparison with you? Is not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer? God has delivered into your hands the princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb. and what was I able to do in comparison with you?” Then their anger toward him subsided when he said that. ~ Judges 8:1-3

Overcome Evil with Good

Mankind has been warring against one another for thousands of years, but this only brings more wars to come. Fortunately, the Bible has shown us a better way to put an end to all these strifes, wars, conflicts and the resulting sufferings, and that is -

OVERCOME EVIL WITH GOOD!
