What was Melchizedek's Blessing to Abraham?

hasn't Abraham already got everything?

Abraham is truly blessed! He was rich, had a beautiful wife, and God gave him many promises about his future. (See "I will Bless Those Who Bless You, and Whoever Curses You I will Curse")

However, even though it seems like Abraham had everything, Melchizedek, the priest of the Most High God, continued to bless him after he had fought a battle to save his brother's son Lot in Sodom. But what else could Melchizedek bless Abraham with?

Blessing From Melchizedek

What did Melchizedek bless Abraham with? The hint is in the bread and wine brought forth by Melchizedek to Abraham.

And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine, and he was the priest of the Most High God. And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the Most High God, possessor of heaven and earth. ~ Genesis 14:18-19

We know that bread and wine symbolise the Body and Blood of Jesus. Drawing a parallel, we can therefore make a speculation that the blessing given to Abraham by Melchizedek was "the Body of Christ".

So, why is "receiving the Body of Christ" so important? The reason is because it is only after Abraham has received the Body of Christ that the Spirit of God can dwell in him to enable him to exercise the authority that God has given to Mankind to rule over the earth when he was created. This assumption is further confirmed when the Lord spoke to Abraham before his son Issac was born:

I will make you exceedingly fruitful; and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come from you. ~ Genesis 17:6

This promise was soon fulfilled when descendants of Abraham became kings of Israel and other nations; and finally, Jesus who is the last Adam, became the King of all kings.

this Blessing is now given to us, the Disciples of Jesus!

Before crucifixion, Jesus who is also anointed as "a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek" (Hebrew 7:17) gave His disciples the same blessing that Melchizedek gave to Abraham through giving to them bread (His Body) and wine (His Blood) at the Last Supper!

And when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me." In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” ~ 1 Corinthians 11:24-25

This "Practice of Communion" was then given to all His disciples from generation to generation. This means this Blessing from the Most High God is no longer limited to the physical descendants of Abraham, but to every believer of Jesus.

Christ in me, the hope of glory!

Through receiving bread and wine (which symbolise the Body and Blood of Christ), we have now become the Holy Temple of God, and the Holy Spirit can finally dwell in us to give us all the spiritual blessings that our Father has intended for us before the foundation of the world.

Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will. ~ Ephesians 1:4-5

This is the mystery!

This is the MYSTERY, as spoken of by Apostle Paul! The Spirit of God now resides in us, from whom we will receive our kingship, and the glory of our Father as He has intended for us right from the beginning!

To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this MYSTERY among the Gentiles: which is CHRIST IN YOU, THE HOPE OF GLORY. ~ Colossians 1:27

This process is in fact NOT easy because of the all the spiritual warfares which were fought against us. However, through the wisdom of our Father and the selfless sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ, God our Father has achieved His purpose precisely in the way He has intended.

To God the only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen. ~ Romans 16:27
